Equal rights and justice for all: Meira Kumar

Kolkata, Jun 2 (UNI) Union Minister of Social Justice Meira Kumar today said that each and every citizen should enjoy equal rights and have empowerment.

All India Samta Movement, Hooghly Branch organised the function on 'Equal Share and Social Justice for All' in collaboration with Dhaniakhali Depressed Classes League during which Ms Kumar said all people should enjoy equal right and respect.

''Despite our rich reserves of minerals, adequate land resources and intelligent workforce, our country remains poor and backward in the international arena because we fail to establish equality for all,'' she maintained.

The Minister inaugurated a photo-exhibition on life of Babu Jagjivan Ram. She also initiated a programme to distribute aid and appliances to persons with disabilities.

Seventy persons were given appliances at the function.

Dr Srikumar Mukherjee, Minister-in-charge, Civil Defence, Government of West Bengal also called for ensuring social justice for all.
