'Enroll more child workers in bridge schools'

Vijayawada, June 2: Krishna District Collector Navin Mittal today urged the education department officials to enroll more child workers in 'bridge schools', paving way for eradication of child labour. Addressing a workshop "Putting an end to the child labour system" here, he said out of 4,000 children enrolled in 80 'bridge schools' in Krishna district, 2,935 children were sent to regular schools after completing their basic education.

Mr Mittal asked the officials to monitor the schools to prevent dropout.

"Unless the children were brought to schools regularly, efforts to eradicate child labour would not yield any fruits," he observed.

Mr Mittal said the district administration was also providing them training in self-employment programmes.

"The National Labour Institute has recognised the district's achievement in eradicating child labour and the credit for this goes to different government departments and non-government organisations," he added.
