Delhi police constable sentenced to death

Muzaffarnagar, June 2 (UNI) A local court here today awarded capital punishment to two persons, including a Delhi Police constable, accused in a murder of a pregnant woman.

According to the prosecution, Sandeep along with his friend Shashi Bhushan had eloped with Jyoti -- a resident of the national capital. While on way to Haridwar, the duo hacked Jyoti to death on November 17, 2004 in Ratanpur area of Muzaffarnagar.

The DNA test revealed Jyoti was pregnant with Sandeep's child.

Later, the deceased's father Bajgeet Singh lodged an FIR against the duo.

While Shashi Bhushan is a constable, Sandeep's father is a sub inspector, both in the Delhi Police.

On the basis of substantial evidence and testimony, District Court Judge R D Nimesh convicted both as accused.
