Malkharoda, Chhattisgarh, June 2 (UNI) Congress candidate Mohan Mani Jatwar, contesting an Assembly byelection from this constituency reserved for SC, could not exercise his franchise today as his name did not ''figure'' on the voters' list.

Mr Jatwar reached Polling Station 96 to cast his vote but the presiding officer told him that his name was not on the list and also asked him to check at Station 95. However, the nominee insisted on casting his vote at Number 96 saying that -- while submitting his nomination papers -- his name figured on the list meant for that polling station.

Congress workers argued with the officer for almost an hour and the candidate left the scene in a huff. Alleging that Mr Jatwar's name was found deleted with red ink, the local Congress unit said it would take up the matter with election authorities.
