40 pc voting till 1500 hrs in MP bypoll

Shivpuri, MP, June 2 (UNI) About 40 per cent voting was recorded till 1500 hrs today in scorching heat and amidst heavy security in the bypoll to this Assembly constituency that has a 1,96,452-strong electorate, official sources said.

Polling was progressing peacefully. BJP MLA Om Prakash Khateek was detained at Amola Police Station as he was present in the constituency despite an Election Commission ban on ministers and legislators visiting the area.

''Mr Khateek will be detained until polling concludes (at 1700 hrs),'' said Superintendent of Police Sajid Farid Shapu.

EVMs were being used at all 216 polling stations.
