12 kgs heroin seized in Punjab

Amritsar, June 2 (UNI) The Punjab Police today seized 12 kg heroin valued at Rs 12 crore in the international market and arrested two persons in this connection, Amritsar Rural SSP Iqbal Singh said here.

Giving details, the SSP said that the consignment was seized during checking of vehicles near Kathunangal village on the Amritsar-Pathankot highway. Two persons identified as Sansar Chand, an exserviceman and Sanjeev Kumar were taken into custody while the third identified as Sham Lal managed to get away. All the three are residents of Jammu.

Mr Iqbal Singh said that investigations revealed that the seized drug was part of the 22 kg consignment that had been smuggled across the Punjab border with Pakistan. The remaining 10 kgs had been transported to New Delhi a few days back by the trio.

He said that the seized heroin was being taken to Jammu and from there it was to be transported to Delhi. The arrested persons were later booked under the NDPS Act and remanded to police custody.
