Lucknow, June 1 (UNI) In a major policy decision, the Mayawati-led Uttar Pradesh government today decided to amend UP State University Act, 1973 and UP Technical University Act, 2000 through an ordinance to effect some changes with regard to affiliation of colleges.

''The new arrangement would empower the state government to decide upon the affiliations of the colleges instead of involving Chancellor in the process,'' UP cabinet secretary Shashank Shekhar Singh told reporters here.

Earlier, the matters related to affiliation used to be routed through the Chancellor making the process tedious and time consuming. After the act was amended, the state government would have the powers to decide it on its own, he said.

In another important decision, the government decided to disband the UP State Law Commission Act, 2005 with immediate effect.
