Spectacular pre-birthday bash for Karunanidhi
Chennai, Jun 1 (UNI) Spectacular laser shows, 3D animations and colourful cultural programmes kicked off the 84th birthday celebrations of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK President M Karunanidhi, organised by a section of the party cadre today.
The programme was got up by Thousand Lights cadre of the DMK, at 'Valluvar Kottam', a picturesque monument which Mr Karunanidhi's earlier government had put up for saint- poet Thiruvalluvar.
Mr Karunanidhi turns 84 on June 3. The various schemes he had introduced, his relentless demand to the Centre for 33 per cent Reservation for women, rice at Rs 2 per kg through ration shops and his schemes for farmers were hailed.
The highlight of the special effects was partymen mimicking the voices of Mr Karunanidhi's mentors rationalist leader 'Periyar' E V Ramasamy and DMK founder and former Chief Minister C N Annadurai and praising 'Kalaignar'. The voices were superimposed on the faces of both the leaders.
Besides, Mr Karunanidhi's family members, including his daughter Kanimozhi, the latest to enter politics having been nominated to the Rajya Sabha, senior party leaders, General Secretary K Anbazhagan, Deputy General Secretary and his younger son M K Stalin, Treasurer Arcot N Veerasamy and other frontline members attended the function.
DMK cadres have already put up banners and party flags marking the occasion.
