SP MP granted bail in assault case

Jaunpur, June 1 (UNI) The district and sessions court today granted bail to Samajwadi Party MP Ramakant Yadav, who was sent to jail under judicial custody in an assault case.

Yadav had surrendered in the court of judicial magistrate (I) Shuchi Srivastava yesterday and petitioned for bail, which was rejected.

Later, his counsel had prayed before district judge Subhash Chandra Agarwal, who had posted the matter for today.

Hearing the case today, the court granted Yadav bail on two bonds of Rs 20,000 each, besides a surety of like amount, following which the MP was released from jail.

An FIR was lodged against Yadav and three others in a case of assault and issuing life threats during the Shahganj Cooperative Sugarcane Committee poll in 2000.

The other three accused had already managed to get bail in the case.

Interestingly, Yadav's elder brother and ruling BSP MP from Machhlishahr (Jaunpur) Umakant Yadav is lodged in Azamgarh jail in another criminal case.
