Situation tense in Handahalli
Mysore, June 1 (UNI) Tension gripped at Handahalli in Mysore district since last night following an attack on a house of Zilla Panchayat member by a mob and four persons were arrested in this connection.
Police said about 20 members of a political party entered the house of Gowramma Somashekar of Zilla Panchayat member damaging the doors and windows, ransacking the entire house before the mob allegedly made away with Rs 50,000 cash.
A gold necklace and gold bangles were also taken away after breaking open an almarah.
The mob also pelted stones on the house of her relatives in the village.
The reason for the attack was said to be a row over decorating posters of village leaders.
The situation was tense but under control in the village, police said that additional police forces had been deployed.
There was a quarrel between JD(S) leaders and Congress workers two days ago on selecting the village head.
Former Lok Sabha member and Congress leader Ms Chandraprabha Urs visited the village and tried to compromise between the two groups.
