'Rural population need care from industrial grps'

Mumbai, June 1: Industrialist Ratan Tata today called on the industrial and corporate groups to increase their participation in corporate and social responsibility (CSR) and support the rural population, so that they could also get advantages of India's economic growth.

After receiving a gratitude from the Bombay Chamber of Commerce and Industries (BCCI) here on the occasion of its 171st annual general meeting, Mr Tata said, ''We are living in a very exiting era but we are growing in a spiral manner. We need to take care of people living under BPL with our CSR participation's and support the rural masses to get into the main stream of growth.'' BCCI today felicitated Tata group Chairman Ratan N Tata, for his enormous contribution to the Indian industry.

At the same occasion, the Bombay Chamber also announced the name of its new President and Vice President for the year 2007-08.

Novartis India Ltd Vice Chairman and MD Ranjit Shahani assumed the office of President and IDFC Ltd MD Rajiv B Lall assumed the office of Vice President BCCI for the current year, the board informed.
