Powerful IED blast near convent school rocks J

Srinagar, June 1 (UNI) About 16 soldiers were injured when militants triggered a powerful Improvised Device targeting their vehicle here this morning.

Official sources said militants detonated a powerful IED near the presentation Convent High School, Raj bagh, on the bank of river Jhelum at 0700 hrs targeting an Army convoy.

They said a bus carrying army personnel was damaged in the blast, causing injuries to 16 personnel. The injured were admitted to base hospital.

The road is being used by the VIPs and security personnel.

The blast occurred half an hour before the school buses were scheduled to pass the area.

The school administration has closed the school for two days in view of the blast.

This was the second blast in the area during the past one year.
