Powerful IED blast near a convent school rocks JK

Srinagar, June 1: A powerful explosion near a convent school rocked the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir early this morning, official sources said.

They said suspected militants triggered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) on the banks of river Jhelum near the Presentation Convent School in posh Raj Bagh area of the city at 0700 hrs this morning.

The blast took place an hour before the opening of the school. An Army convoy was also passing through the area at that time.

Initial reports suggested there was no loss of life in the explosion that took place on a road being used by VIPs and security forces.

The sound of the blast was heard in the entire city.
