Imam-e-Kaaba condemns terrorism

Islamabad, June 1 (UNI) Imam-e-Kaaba Al-Sheikh Abdul Rehman Al-Sudais, currently visiting Pakistan, has abhorred terrorism and extremism, saying that Islam preaches peace and harmony and opposes violence.

He said this in his Friday congregation at the dazzling Faisal mosque in Islamabad, which was attended by thousands of people.

''Ours is a religion of peace and harmony, which abhors terrorism, extremism and violence,'' he said, while underscroing the need of unity among Muslims for solution of their outstanding problems.

Yesterday, Al-Sudais met Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz and stressed for dialogue and increased contacts within the Muslim world to address challenges confronting Muslims.

''People of Pakistan must resolve their problems through mutual understanding in the interest of their country,'' he told a joint press conference with Mr Aziz.

The Prime Minister said challenges confronting Muslims demand complete unity in their ranks. He said Islam teaches peace, brotherhood and tolerance and abhors terrorism and sectarianism.

Earlier, Mr Aziz and Sheikh Sudais held talks and discussed various aspects of relations between the two countries.

They also exchanged views on challenges facing the Ummah and the need for appropriate response.
