Hissar records 43.9 degrees celsius

Chandigarh, Jun 1 (UNI) Schorching heat prevailed in north-west India as the mercury further rose in the region, touching 43.9 degrees at Hissar today.

The maximum temperature hovered two degrees to three degrees celsius above normal at many places in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh, making the people groan under intense heat.

Hissar with 43.9 degrees, three degrees above normal, was the hottest place in Haryana and the people preferred to stay indoors during the day. The temperature had touched 42.5 degrees celsius yesterday.

Karnal with 41.4 degrees and Ambala with 41.0 degrees recorded an increase in the temperatures hovering one degree above normal in the twin towns.

People groaned under hot weather conditions in Punjab as the temperature further rose in the state. The holy city of Amritsar, recording 42.2 degrees, two degrees above normal, turned out to be the hottest place in the state, followed by Ludhiana and Patiala registering 41.8 degrees celsius each.

Chandigarh and its surrounding areas experienced schorching heat with the city recording 41.2 degrees, one degree above normal, against 40.0 degrees recorded yesterday.

Power supply remained disrupted in parts of the city, including the areas of Punjab University, PGI, Sectors 34, 38, 39, 40 and adjoining villages, for about half an hour from 1500 hours due to tripping of 220 KV Ropar-Mohali transmission line. The power supply to these areas is being fed via 220 KV Mohali Sub-Station.

The mercury also showed upward movement in many areas of Himachal Pradesh. The temperature stayed three degrees above normal at Shimla recording 27.2 degrees celsius while Bhuntar in Kullu district showed 32.9 degrees and Sundernagar in Mandi district 36.4 degrees.

The weather office has predicted mainly sunny days in Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana during the next 24 hours.
