HC extends interim bail of Chandresh Shah

Mumbai, June 1 (UNI) The Bombay High Court today extended till June 6 the interim bail granted by a sessions court to estate agent Chandresh Shah, an accused in a cheating, forgery and extortion case along with underworld don Dawood Ibrahim's sister Haseena Parkar.

Shah moved the High Court for anticipatory bail after a sessions court directed him to surrender before the metropolitan magistrate's court and seek a regular bail.

Advocate Aabaad Ponda, appearing on behalf of Shah, contended that his client has been granted protection since April 18 and even after directing him to surrender before the Magistrate's court, the sessions court has extended his protection and prayed for extension.

Accepting Ponda's contention, Justice J P Deodhar adjourned the matter to June 6 and extended interim bail granted to Shah till then.

Shah, along with Haseena, has been charged with extortion by the anti-extortion cell of police in a Slum Rehabilitation authority project dispute case at Wadala in South Central Mumbai. Two other accused in the case, Krishnamilan Shukla and his nephew Sandeep, have already obtained anticipatory bail from the Metropolitan Magistrate's court.
