Ahmedabad, June 1 (UNI) National Council for Civil Liberties (NCCL), a non-governmental organisation here, has won the Dubai International Award for Best Practices (DIABP) for its initiative entitled Mission ENDURE, which was launched in Ahmedabad city today in Association with Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) to reduce dust pollution.
DIABP assistant director general Obaid Salem Al Shamsi, in a letter dated May 22 to NCCL President V K Saxena, informed, ''On behalf of Director General of Dubai Municipality and Executive Director United Nations Human Settlement Programme UN-HABITAT), we are pleased to present you with a best practice certificate for your outstanding initiative entitled Mission ENDURE,'' a press release here said.
The letter said 650 submissions had been received in 2006 from around the globe and Mission ENDURE was singled out as a best practice.
NCCL launched Mission ENDURE (ENsuring DUst REduction) with AMC cooperation in July 2004. The mission had an incredibly simple, but workable methodology: Pave the road shoulders across the city with eco-friendly material, thus removing dust assimilation, and in turn, preventing raising of dust by vehicles and pedestrians.
