Administration fully geared up for Jun 2 Ullal bypoll

Mangalore, Jun 1 (UNI) All arrangements are complete for a peaceful bye-elections to the Ullal Assembly Constituency in Karnataka tomorrow with five candidates in the fray.

Polling would commence at 0700 hrs and close at 1700 hrs.

Counting would take place on June 5.

Polling authorities have identified 56 of the 140 polling booths as hyper sensitive while 70 others have been marked sensitive.

According to official sources, police presence in the hyper sensitive booths would be enhanced with para-military forces.

The election became necessary due to the death of Congress member U T Fareed.

The Congress had fielded his son T Khader. Opposing him would be Mr Chandrashekar Uchil of the BJP who lost to Mr Fareed in the last elections.

BJP's coalition partner JD(S), too, had put up a candidate, Mr Aboobakkar Natekal in an apparent bid to divide Muslim votes. Others in the fray were Mr Balakrishna Shetty (CPI(M)) and Mr Bharatraraj Shetty (independent).
