6 arrested for attacking police team

Gonda, June 1 (UNI) Police today arrested six persons, including three women, for attacking members of a special operation group (SOG) here.

The SOG squad came under sudden attack in Khaira Bagia area of the city last night, where they had gone to arrest some miscreants, accused of assaulting Habib-ur-rehman's wife and eve-teasing his daughter.

Police Superintendent Shachi Ghildiyal said the cops were pelted with stones and bricks and attacked with sharp-edged weapons, resulting in wounds to three police personnel.

Later, the cops opened fire in self-defence, in which Irshad alias Munna was wounded.

A total of 11 persons had been charged in this case.

The arrested persons include Irshad, Jumman, Mohd Sharif, Sarwar Jahan, Nagina and Shahida.

A manhunt had been launched to nab other absconding accused.
