Tripura CM demands 90:10 funding pattern

Agartala, May 31 (UNI) Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar today demanded funding pattern of 90 per cent grants and 10 per cent loans for development projects in the North East.

Referring to the 53rd National Development Council (NDC) meeting held on May 29 at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi, Mr Sarkar said here that 90:10 funding pattern was required for the speedy development of the region.

Besides, improvement of communication network, he stressed on the expansion of agriculture, horticulture, fishery and tourism industries in the region for a sustainable development.

''Tripura is implementing perspective plans to achieve self-sufficiency in food grains, egg, fish and milk production by 2012 and the plans have been yielding a positive result,'' he said adding the System of Rice Intensification (SRI) had also achieved good results in the state.

Mr Sarkar also demanded setting up of a horticulture research centre to increase fruit production in the region, granting soft loans to the farmers and development of infrastructure.
