Thales opens software centre in Chennnai

Chennai, May 31: Thales, a leading international electronics and systems group serving defence, aerospace and security markets, today inaugurated its software centre in the city which would function as an in-house software development centre to provide its services to Thales business worldwide.

Addressing a press conference here, Mr Reynaid Seznec, Senior Vice President, Operations, Thales Group, said the software centre in the city was established at an investment of one million euros.

It would focus on high value-added software programming and domain specific development.

He said the Chennai centre, currently employing 83 engineers, would recruit 70 more by the end of this year, 300 by next year and 1000 by 2010.

"In the long term, the centre is set to become a Research and Development Centre in its own right, developing software to support the entire range of Thales Group-wide solutions," Mr Seznec said.

The centre, in the coming years, would focus on and develop software for mission critical systems and develop domain expertise, he said.

Presently, Thales was focusing on defence, aerospace and security solutions. The company's revenue through Indian operations was 300 million US Dollar and it had orders to the tune of 320 million US Dollar, he added.
