SP MP sent to jail in assault case

Jaunpur, May 31 (UNI) Samajwadi Party MP Ramakant Yadav was today sent to jail under 14 days judicial custody, after a court rejected his bail application in an assault case.

An FIR was lodged against Yadav and three others in a case of assault and issuing life threats during the Shahganj Cooperative Sugarcane Committee poll in 2000.

Three other accused had however managed bail in the case.

This morning, Yadav surrendered in the court of judicial magistrate (I) Shuchi Srivastava and petitioned for bail, which was rejected and he was sent to jail.

Later, his counsel prayed before the district and sessions judge Subhash Chandra Agarwal for a hearing in this case. However, the judge posted the matter for tomorrow.
