Rrtired farm scientists form NGO
Ludhiana, May 31 (UNI) Distinguished agricultural scientists who have retired from Punjab Agricultural University here recently, have formed an NGO named Centre for Agricultural Research and Rural Development (CARRD).
The organization will address various problems haunting the farming community for sustained agricultural development and environmental safety in India in general and Punjab in particular.
Dr Joginder Singh, Dr V K Nayyar and Dr J S Sidhu are the President, Vice President and Secretary of this organisation respectively.
In the first technical meeting of CARRD, the marketing aspects of fruits and vegetables were discussed. A strong need was felt to study market behaviour of perishable products, particularly in terms of consumers' pocket and taste.
Proper grading, packing, processing and other value additions were stressed at the meeting so that farmers could compete with big traders.
