Mumbai, May 31 (UNI) A local court today directed the Azad Maidan police to file a written reply on the circumstances that led to granting bail to Pune-based builder Avinash Bhosale who was held for evading Customs duty.

The court also directed Mr Bhosale himself to file a reply by June 14 on an application filed by Directorate of Revenue Intellegence (DRI) ealier.

Mr Bhosale was arrested last Sunday with diamond-studded wrist watches and traveller cheques by DRI sleuths at the international airport here for allegedly evading Customs duty.

Earlier, Magistrate Sawant Vagule had issued summons to four persons including Advocate Abad Ponda, who represented Mr Bhosale.

Advocate Ponda had submitted his reply to the court in which he had cited the High Court manual according to which advocate on record should be held responssible for any act and not the counsel. The magistrate upheld his contention and removed his name from the list of summons.

The Enforcement Directorate is also looking into the matter of Mr Bhosale's alleged evasion of Customs duty. He was released on bail, after furnishing Rs 50,000, by a court late Sunday night.
