Aizawl, May 31 (UNI) The Aizawl-based Peoples' Right to Information Implementation Society of Mizoram (PRIISM) has filed a Public Interest Litigation at the Aizawl bench of Gauhati High Court against four lecturers.

The lecturers were unable to qualify the NET (National Eligibility Test), mandatory for lecturers, yet they were appointed at the Government Hrangbana College in Aizawl, PRIISM president Vanlalruata alleged.

He told UNI today that the PIL was filed yesterday and the court would hear the case today.

The lecturers, appointed in March 2003 without NET certificates, included H Lalzuithangi, daughter of H V Lalringa, Mizoram Chief Secretary during that time, sources said.

The Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP), a student body of the state, had demanded cancellation of the appointments following which the Joint Secretary of Education&Human Resources directed the Higher&Technical Education Director to revoke the appointment orders on April 10, 2003.

However, the aggrieved party moved Gauhati High Court which stayed the cancellation order on the ground that it was a 'violation of the principle of natural justice' because the Mizoram government stated 'in view of the present agitation called by the MZP' as the cause of the cancellation of the appointment order.

Shortly after the lecturers were appointed, the college was provincialised, official soudces added.
