National panel demands minimum wages for safai karamcharis

New Delhi, May 31 (UNI) Chairperson of the National Commission for Safai Karamcharis Santosh Chowdhary today advocated minimum wages for temporary safai workers.

She said Commission wants that all the temporary safai workers should be made permanent and posts lying vacant should be filled soon.

Ms Choudhary was talking to reporters after visiting All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) to know the socio-economic, living, working, service and educational conditions of the workers and their dependents.

She held a meeting with the officials and workers' representatives of AIIMS to discuss the various problems faced by them.

She also asked the AIIMS authorities to clear all the pending pension and GPF cases of retired employees.

Ms Chowdhary said free medical check up of safai karamcharis and welfare campaign about policies for them should be taken up on priority basis.
