MCX turnover down at Rs 3185.03 cr in first session

Mumbai, May 31 (UNI) The Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) turnover today in the first session up to 1700 hrs touched Rs 3185.03 crore, down 2.7 per cent from the previous day's turnover.

Total number of trades was 53,920 against 56,512 in the previous session.

MCX Comdex -- the composite index of metal, energy and agri-indices -- was down 0.03 per cent at 2131.51 points. The MCX Metal Index was up 0.45 per cent at 2560.43 points, MCX Energy Index was down 0.67 per cent at 2141.70 points, and MCX Agri Index ended up by 0.15 per cent at 1679.61 points, an MCX spokesperson said.

Bullion turnover totalled Rs 1198.71 crore with gold accounting for Rs 834.83 crore and silver Rs 363.88 crore. Gold contract volumes were 9,534 kgs and open interest 16,433 kgs while silver volumes were 200,525 kgs and open interest was 575,875 kgs.

Gold contracts, including gold mini, traded in a range of Re 1 to Rs 19 per 10 gms, with the June contracts up 0.06 per cent at Rs 8655.

Silver contracts, including silver mini, traded between Rs 79 and 103 per kg. The July contract was up 0.45 per cent at Rs 18,149 per kg.

In the base metals segment, copper contracts turnover was Rs 658.78 crore with volume of 21,855,000 kg and open interest of 13,983,000 kg. Copper contracts gained between Rs 4.15 and Rs 4.50 per kg with the June contract up 1.41 per cent at Rs 302.60 per kg.

Turnover of all zinc contracts was Rs 535.08 crore with volume of 35,835 tonnes and open interest of 24,465 tonnes. Zinc contracts were up between Rs 2.30 and 2.70 with the near month (May) contract up 1.84 per cent at Rs 149.60 per kg.

Turnover of all nickel contracts was Rs 176.96 crore with volume of 882,000 kg and open interest of 573,500 kg. Nickel for May delivery was up 1.75 per cent at Rs 2067.60 per kg.

Turnover of all aluminium contracts was Rs 33.14 crore with volume of 2,940 tonnes and open interest of 6,560 tonnes. Aluminium May contract was down 0.36 per cent at Rs 111.05 per kg.
