JKSRTC to run over 300 buses for Amarnath pilgrims

Srinagar, May 31 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) will run more than 300 buses for devotees undertaking pilgrimage to the holy cave shrine of Amarnath this year.

Transport Minister Hakeem Muhammad Yaseen said Rs one crore has already been released to the SRTC for purchase of spare parts to repair more than 300 buses which have been grounded due to various mechanical problems.

The buses would be pressed into service for transportation of pilgrims visiting the holy cave shrine from different destinations to the base camps at Pahalgam and Baltal, he added.

The Minister directed for deputing a team of senior officers to Delhi for sorting out the modalities with reputed agencies from whom spare parts such as tyres, tubes, batteries and other material could be purchased.

Seeking immediate repair of vehicles, he stressed the need for proper management in the functioning of the SRTC so that available resources were utilised properly for its benefit.
