Jammu, May 31 (UNI) DSP Shaily Singh, killed in an encounter near Bhaderwah town of Doda district last evening, was cremated by the Jammu and Kashmir police here with full honours this evening.
The DSP, who was on the hit list of militants as he had been the ''terror for the terrorists'', was killed during an encounter with militants at Bhaderwah town in Doda district.
Director General of Police Gopal Sharma was among the senior police officials who paid his last respects to the departed police officer at Shashtri Nagar cremation ground.
A guard of honour, with the muzzles of rifles down, was also given to the martyred police officer, Earlier today, his body was brought to the district police lines here with full police honours.
The DSP, who had lost his Inspector father Udhey Vir Singh in a militant attack, joined the Jammu and Kashmir Police as Inspector 13 years ago.
Shailey Singh, posted with the Special Operations Group (SOG), Jammu, had reportedly eliminated about 500 militants during his postings in militancy-infested areas of the state.
This young officer was also honoured by Governor Lt Gen (retd) S K Sinha last year for successfully completing his duty during the Amarnath Yatra.
Only last month, Shailey Singh's team, on the basis of intelligence inputs, had thwarted a plot to assassinate Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad in a public rally at Ramban and apprehended four people.
Just ten days ago, the police officer had got engaged to a lecturer and his marriage was fixed for June 27.
