Jaggi case: Cops get bail after conviction

Raipur, May 31 (UNI) Three Chhattisgarh Police officials, convicted today in connection with the Ram Avtar Jaggi murder case, were granted bail by a sessions court.

City Superintendent of Police Amrik Singh Gill, Sub-Inspector R C Trivedi and Town Inspector V K Pandey were released on bail bonds of Rs 30,000 each.

The CBI had arrested these officials who earlier investigated the case and apprehended five people from Uttar Pradesh, claiming that they gunned down the NCP state Treasurer during attempted robbery.

The officials were charged with framing an incorrect record and writing with intent to save a person from punishment and were sentenced to five years' imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1,000 each.

All five arrested by these officials were also convicted and awarded five years' rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1,000 each for producing false evidence in court.

Mr Jaggi was killed on June 4, 2003, just six months before Chhattisgarh's maiden assembly election.
