Haryana earmarks Rs 40 lakh for zoos

Chandigarh, May 31 (UNI) The Haryana government has earmarked Rs 40 lakh for better management and normal upkeep and maintenance of the animals in the zoos of the state during the current financial year.

State Minister for Forests and Tourism Kiran Choudhry said that the zoos in the country had to follow the guidelines issued by the Central Zoo Authority (CZA) and Union Ministry of Environment and Forests.

She said that in the light of various directions issued by the Centre for proper enclosures for the zoo animals, a lot of improvement needed to be done at the zoos of the State.

She said that CZA had given specific requirement of space and facilities for each species of wild animal kept in zoo.

The Minister said that the layout plan for Pipli and Rohtak zoos had been prepared and submitted for approval to CZA.

She said that some cages at Pipli and Rohtak zoos were upto these specifications. However, there were other enclosures that needed to be renovated and enlarged.
