Haryana earmarks Rs 2 cr for chaupals
Chandigarh, May 31 (UNI) The Haryana government has earmarked Rs two crore for the construction and repair of General Chaupals and Chaupals for people belonging to Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes in the state during the current financial year.
''The move is aimed at providing a place to the people for organising community functions such as marriages and festivals,'' an official spokesman said today.
He said the chaupals for the persons belonging to Scheduled Castes (SCs) would be repaired and constructed under the scheme.
A sum of Rs one crore would be spent for the repair of 500 SC Chaupals and completion of 250 SC chaupals under the scheme.
Similarly, a sum of Rs 30 lakh would be spent for repair and construction of chaupals for the persons belonging to Backward Classes under the scheme.
As many as 150 chaupals would be repaired and 75 would be completed under the scheme during the current financial year.
The spokesman said a sum of Rs 70 lakh would be spent for the repair and completion of 350 and 175 General Chaupals respectively during the current financial year.
