Girls come out with better performance

Puducherry, May 31 (UNI) Girls performed better than boys in the SSLC examination in the Puducherry and Karaikal regions of the Union Territory this year.

Announcing the results here today, Chief Minister N Rangasamy said the pass percentage stood at 78.91 this year, up by 5.71 per cent from last year's 73.20 per cent. As many as 50 schools, including three Government schools, achieved 100 per cent pass percentage.

He said S Divyabharathi of Vivekananda High School here secured the first rank with 489 marks, while S Gayatri of the same school stood second with 486 marks and N Vaidehi of Jawahar High School at Koodapakkam third with 485 marks.

Among the Government schools, G Kalidas of Mettupalayam Government High School came first with 476 marks, followed by M Mandakini of Thattanchavady Government High School with 474 marks and R Rajalakshmi of Thiruvalluvar Government Higher Secondary school with 473 marks.

Mr Rangasamy announced a cash reward of Rs one lakh each to the three Government schools which secured 100 per cent pass percentage and five Government schools in rural areas which secured over 90 per cent pass percentage.

The Chief Minister said that in the matriculation schools, the pass percentage had declined by 1.99 per cent to 96.97 per cent this year. Of the total 1,187 students who appeared for the exam, 1,151 had passed. Seven schools secured 100 per cent pass percentage.

Anu Jose Markose of St Joseph of Cluny Girls Higher Secondary School came first with 1062 marks, followed by Surya Selvaraj of the same school with 1060 marks and Karpagalakshmi of St Patrick school with 1054 marks.

About the promotion of all eleventh students of Government schools here without any paper valuation in the wake of the strike by lecturers, the Chief Minister said the lecturers should understand their responsibilities.
