Jamshedpur, May 31 (UNI) Election Commission of India has derecognised the All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU) headed by former Jharkhand home minister Sudesh Mahto.

Former AJSU and Jharkhand People's Party (JPP) General Secretary Surya Singh Besras told UNI today that he had received a communique from the EC in which the Commission took cognizance on May 22 on the basis of a complaint of Mr Besra on April 16 this year.

The EC gave recognition to Mr Mahto's faction of AJSU as a political party on November 15, 2000.

Terming the decision of EC as " big victory to JPP&AJSU," Mr Besra said the AJSU has hounded by himself in 1989 as a student wing of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and later since 1992 AJSU acted as JPP'S student wing. Being a student AJSU should not be considered as political party. "I am happy that EC finally takes cognizance of JPP's plea" Mr Besra said.

Mr Besra said he would soon file a petition before the Jharkhand Assembly Speaker Alamgir Alam on the basis of EC's verdict.
