EC directs parties to ensure peaceful by-polls.
Shimla, May 31 (UNI) The Election Commission of India has directed political parties and its candidates to ensure peaceful polling to the Hamirpur Lok Sabha by-polls on June 2, Chief Electoral Officer Manisha Nanda today said.
No candidate or political party would be allowed to set up their booth within 200 metre radius of the polling stations with a maximum of one booth in any area having more than one polling station, she said in a release here.
Ms Nanda said candidates should inform the returning officer, in writing, regarding the details of such booths and take necessary permission from the local officers before setting any booths.
Besides, candidates and political parties would only issue non official identity slips to the voters without having names of the candidates, political parties or party symbols, she said.
She said mobile phones and wireless sets would also not be allowed within 100 metres of the polling booth, except in the case of authorised election officers, officials and police force.
