DRP bidding process to start tomorrow

Mumbai, May 31 (UNI) The Dharavi redevelopment project (DRP), for which global tenders have been issued, will be one of the biggest rehabilitation projects in the world in which 57,000 families will be settled in a 144 hectare integrated township.

Talking to reporters here today, I S Chahal, officer on special duty, DRP, said the scheduled date for purchasing the expression of interest (EOI) documents is from June 1 to 30 and these forms will be available from tomorrow at the cost of Rs one lakh.

He said the date of receipt of the EOI forms is from July 1 to 31, while date of opening of EOI is August 1. Chahal said a committee, headed by state chief secretary and several other senior officials, will scrutinise all bidders and declaration of shortlisted bidders wil be done on September 1.

''The minimum bidding cost is Rs 1000 crore and the project has to be completed in seven years'', he added.

Chahal said the entire project of Dharavi is divided in five sectors (townships) and there will be separate bidding for each sector. He clarified that one bidder can bid for all the five projects but if selected he will have to undertake only one.

Under the project seven crore sq. ft are will go for construction out of which three crore sq ft construction will be for civic amenities and remaining four crore sq ft could be sold in the open market. The maintainaince will be with developer for next fifteen years from the date of completion and he will not charge anything for the same.

The Maharashtra government, along with the Centre yesterday issued global tenders for redevelopment of Dharavi, Asia's biggest slum. The advertisement issued in the media, globally, invited international developers to transform Dharavi into an integrated township with modern amenities and complete Infrastructure.
