Dell opens Global R
Bangalore, May 31 (UNI) Dell, the global major in IT systems and services, today opened its new state-of-the-art global research and development centre here, the largest research facility of the company outside its headquarters in Austin in the US.
Speaking after inaugurating the sprawling two lakh sq ft facility at Bagmane Tech Park in the city, Mr Brad Anderson, Senior Vice President, Business Product Group, said ''we need great individuals to drive us to produce products we dream of. This is the place where we found them in abundance. The engineering teams at this R and D Centre develop complete platform design for services and undertake end-to-end development work for enterprise products.'' After developing a series of software products from its existing facility in the city, the engineering team would roll out for the first time a hardware product -- a two-socket server, designed and developed from the concept to end stage at the Indian facility.
Mr Anderson said that building on excellent talent, Dell had created an intellectual powerhouse and centre of excellence in India. ''From the exploratory start in 2001, we have made cumulative investments of more than 150 US Dollars, which includes the cost of this centre in which our 600-strong engineering team will be working to showcase our India research capabilities,'' he added.
He said Dell would undertake cutting edge research and development on its next generation of network servers, data storage systems and software products. The India R and D centre would help its customers worldwide to simplify their information technology by creating scalable, standards-based solutions for network computing.
''We are embracing and driving a collaborative innovation model for R and D, partnering with leading companies to drive standards across key technologies that will reduce complexity and help simplify the IT enviroments of our customers,'' he added.
