CPI registers one point increase

Shimla, May 31 (UNI) The All India Consumer Price Index Number for Industrial Workers (CPI-IW) on base 2001=100 increased by one point to 128 in April this fiscal.

The index recorded an increase of seven points in Sholapur centre, five in Rangapara Tezpur centre, four in four centres, three in eight centres, two points in nine centres and one point in 27 centres.

The index decreased by two points each in Quilon and Nasik centres and it decreased by one point in six centres, while in 20 centres remained stationary.

The increase of seven points in Sholapur centre was due to the rise in the prices of rice, wheat, jowar, arhar dal, masur dal, groundnut oil, milk garlic, vegetable and fruit items, country liquor and stationery items.

In Quilon centre the decrease of two points was due to the fall in the prices of wheat, onion, coconut, vegetable and fruits items and electricity.

The indices in respect of the six main centres were Ahmedabad (127), Bangalore (133), Chennai (122), Delhi (128), Kolkata (130) and Mumbai (132).

The point-to-point rate of inflation, based on the CPI-IW, has decreased from 6.72 per cent in March, 2007 to 6.67 per cent in April, this fiscal.
