BSF seized seven turtles in Tripura-Bangladesh border

Agartala, May 31 (UNI) The BSF seized seven turtles, including three endangered Indian soft-shell turtle, from Lankamura area near here today.

BSF officials said the jawans of 59 battalion noticed two people, who were carrying the turtles towards Agartala from across the border, at zero line early this morning .

However, the duo fled leaving the turtles in the field when the jawans stopped them.

Assistant Commandant of 59 battalion BSF, K P Chaurasia, said the turtles would be handed over to wildlife officials.

The BSF had intensified vigil along the border following the report of cross border movement in some sensitive areas of the state.

The force had also seized 23 foreign-made emergency lights and 570 Bangladeshi soaps from a rickshaw-puller yesterday from Lankamura area.

Meanwhile, police and Tripura State Rifles jawans have recovered Phensydyl and Ganja worth Rs six lakh and arrested one person in this regard from Sonamura in western part the state.

Besides, the North Tripura police arrested two persons from a passenger bus coming from Silchar for carrying a huge quantity of contraband proxybon capsules yesterday.
