Amit Jogi acquitted; 28 convicted in Jaggi murder case
Raipur, May 31 (UNI) A sessions court today acquitted former Chhattisgarh chief minister Ajit Jogi's son Amit and sentenced 19 to life in prison in the much-publicised case of murder of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Ramavtar Jaggi, nearly four years ago.
Reading out the verdict in a crowded court room, Additional sessions and special Judge (Atrocities) B L Tidke exonerated Amit, saying the prosecution failed to provide evidence to establish his involvement in the conspiracy and murder of Jaggi.
The court also convicted nine others in the case.
Amit was booked by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), under sections 302, 120B (Murder and criminal conspiracy) and others of Indian Penal Code.
The court sentenced 19 others to life in prison for their involvement in the crime. However, two other accused, who had turned approvers, were also let off.
