Vajpayee seeks Jaya's support on NDA Prez nominee

Chennai, May 30 (UNI) Former Prime Minister A B Vajpayee today sought the support of Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and AIADMK General Secretary J Jayalalithaa for National Democratic Alliance's (NDA) Presidential candidate Bhairon Singh Shekhawat.

Mr Vajpayee spoke to Ms Jayalalithaa over phone and sought her support, but the latter, told him she was now part of a separate front and could not take a decision in isolation, an AIADMK release here said.

As she was now part of a front comprising leaders such as Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav, Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Assam Gana Parishad Leader Brindaban Goswami, she would have to discuss the matter with them and also with her own party colleagues.

After she explained her position, Mr Vajpayee said he would contact her again IN a few days.

Ms Jayalalithaa was likely to attend a meeting in Hyderabad soon to discuss the forthcoming Presidential election, it added.
