Three arrested in dowry case

Phagwara, May 30 (UNI) Three members of a family have been arrested here on the charges of harassment for dowry and criminal breach of trust.

According to the police Kapil Dev Nayyar father of the harassed women, Dipika, had filed FIR against husband Vinod Kumar, father-in-law Ashok Kumar and brother-in-law Vipin Kumar, all residents of Amritsar.

According to sources Nayyar, a resident of Mehli Gate, stated in his complaint that his daughter Dipika was married to Vinod of Faridkot in October 2003 who later shifted to Amritsar. The family spent around Rs 3.5 lakh on the marriage on the demand of parents of the groom.

Immediately after marriage her husband started compelling her to bring more dowry. He used to beat her regularly at the instance of his father and brother.

Her parents gave some more household articles to them but things didn't change for her. When she refused to bring any more dowry, including a new car, she was subjected to cruelty by her in-laws to get more dowry.

When things came to such a pass, Dipika's parents brought her from Amritsar to here, Consequently, Nayyar made a complaint to the police following which a case of harassment for dowry under Sections 498 A and 3, 4 of the Dowry Act was registered at the city police station here against all the accused.

As per police sources, all the accused in the dowry case, had been evading arrest since 2005 and were declared proclaimed offenders by the local court on November 21, 2006.
