State govt to provide 5% reservation to Muslim

Hyderabad, May 30 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Energy and Minority Welfare Minister Mohd Ali Shabbir today said the government was committed to providing five per cent reservation to Muslim minorites in education institutions and government jobs from this year.

Participating in a programme organised by Press Information Bureau (PIB) here, Mr Sabbir said the Muslim quota in education would be implemented from this academic year itself, and the state government was looking for a way out to get legal sanction as the earlier ordinance was struck down by Supreme Court.

He said 12 new hostels, of which five for girls, would be operational from this year.

The Minister said the government was considering paying ex-gratia to those killed in police firing at Mecca masjid blast incident.
