SR announces resumption of services to Coonoor
Chennai, May 30 (UNI) The Southern Railways today announced that train services on Nilgiri Mountain Railway, which were suspended between Mettupalayam and Coonoor due to a landslide, would resume from tomorrow.
A railway release here said about 150 employees from Palghat division, in charge of the section, worked round the clock and restored the track in a record time, taking into consideration the the peak tourist season.
Following the landslide on May 28, large boulders had fallen on track between Hillgroe and Coonoor stations and about 60 metres of track were damaged.
Embankment to a stretch of 15 metres was also completely washed away in flash floods, it said. The track damage was estimated at Rs 40 lakh, the release added.
