Scribes, writers take out protest rally against ULFA

Guwahati, May 30 (UNI) Journalists, writers and social activists here today took out a protest rally against the recent series of violence triggered by the ULFA.

Responding to an anti-terror call by 14 citizens, including writers, journalists and social activists, several hundred people took out a protest march from the Guwahati Press Club this morning to express anger against the latest series of United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) instigated explosions in the city.

Raising slogans like ''Down with the ULFA'', ''ISI Diktat won't Run in Assam'' and ''We Don't Want ULFA's Sovereign Assam'', resounded along the way as marchers paraded through the busy streets.

Besides, leading citizens like Assam Tribune Group chairman T G Baruah, litterateurs Atulananda Goswami and Eli Ahmed, Asom Sattra Mahasabha president Bhadra Krishna Goswami and former Gauhati University professor Jagannath Goswami, several organizations joined the march. They included Senior Citizens' Forum, Athgaon Yuvak Sangha, Brihattar Athgaon Nagarik Santha, Binapani Samiti, Assam Public Works, Krishna Nagar Mahila Samiti and Patriotic People's Front.

The march was called, among others, by eminent litterateur Nirupama Borgohain and veteran journalist D N Chakrabarty.
