Punjab Mandi Board welcomes wheat procurement date extension

Moga, May 30 (UNI) Punjab Mandi Board Chairman Ajmer Singh Lakhowal today welcomed the decision of the Union Government to extend the date of procurement of wheat from May 30 to June 30.

Mr Lakhowal in a statement here also thanked the Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal who took the initiative to persuade Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar to extend procurement period in the wake of delayed wheat arrival in the mandis due to late maturity of crop.

He also welcomed the announcement made by the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh at National Development Council Meeting boosting agriculture sector at an estimated cost of Rs 25,000 crore.
