Photo identity cards necessary for Hamirpur by-polls, says CEC

Shimla, May 30 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh's Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Manisha Nanda today said photo identity cards or other documents establishing the identity of the voters are necessary for Hamirpur parliament by-polls.

Voters who have photo identity cards would have to produce these at the polling stations before being allowed to cast their votes, while others would have to produce alternative documents that establish their identities, she said in a release here.

Ms Nanda said production of alternate documents like passports, driving licenses, income tax identity (PAN) cards, service identity cards freedom fighter identity cards, pension documents and domicile certificate (Himachali), issued by a SDM, tehsildar or naib tehsildar would make people without photo identity cards eligible to cast their votes in the June two by-polls.

Pass books of public sector banks, post offices, kisan pass book, student identity cards, property documents, ration cards SC,ST,OBC certificates, railway identification cards, arms licenses, certificate of physical handicap, copy of parivar register as maintained by gram panchayat and municipal committees and signed by gram panchayats and vikas adhikari could also be produced for identification, she said.

Besides, the CEO said, any of these documents, available in the name of the head of the family, would also be admissible for identification of other members, provided all the members come together and were identified by him.
