Philips to touch CFLs sale to 20 mln by year-end

New Delhi, May 30 (UNI) Addressing to the power shortage in the country, leading incandescent light bulb maker Philips Electronics Ltd today said it will increase sale of compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) to 20 million by the end of this year against 12-13 million last year.

''We are committed to ramping up production of CFLs to meet the rising demand in the country,'' company's Head (Lighting Division) S Venkataramani said.

He said the company had recently pledged an advertising budget of Rs 20 crore towards awareness building initiatives like 'Bijli Bachao' campaign and other educational activities like creating awareness among school children.

''Philips is also in process of finalising some energy conservation projects with the Centre,'' he added.

Philips announced various initiatives that it has undertaken as part of its commitment to energy efficient lighting.

The electronics major is working closely with several state government bodies to spread awareness on the issue.

Last year, it tied up with Calcutta Port Trust (CPT) for the Howrah Bridge illumination project.

The company is also working closely with the energy and resources institute TERI, focusing on energy, environment and sustainable development and several awareness-based initiatives are also in the pipeline.
