Patna High Court admits Md Shahabuddin's appeal
Patna, May 30 (UNI) Patna High Court today admitted the appeal of incarcerated RJD MP Mohammad Shahabuddin challenging the judgement of a special court of Siwan, which sentenced him to life imprisonment in connection with the kidnapping of a CPI(ML) worker.
A division bench comprising justice Shiva Kirti Singh and justice Seema Ali Khan admitted the appeal for hearing and issued the directive for submitting records of the lower court in this case.
In his petition, Shahabuddin had alleged that the lower court judgement sentencing him to life imprisonment was illegal and unwarranted. He pointed out that lone witness in the case, Sheetal Paswan, had identified him in the court after more than seven years, which should not have been relied upon.
On May 8, the lower court of Siwan had sentenced the RJD MP to rigorous life imprisonment in connection with the abduction of CPI(ML) leader Chhote Lal Gupta from Siwan in 1999.
