NCP against involvement of govt agencies for SEZ's

Panaji, May 30 (UNI) The NCP was against involvement of government agencies for acquiring land for private Special Economic Zones (SEZ), but favoured any developmental schemes meant for bettering the lot of the rural people, Union Agriculture minister and party supremo Sharad Pawar said today.

Interacting with mediapersons here, before launching the campaign for his party for the June 2 elections to Goa Legislative asssembly, Mr Pawar said, ''The land acquisition should be left for negotiation between the selling farmer and the buying industrialist to arrive at a better and acceptable price with no government intervention.'' ''We do not want government machinery to be used for land acquisition for private parties for the SEZ's. But it has to engage in promoting other developmental schemes like building dams, roads and express highways to benefit all'', Pawar said.

The NDC meet held yesterday in New Delhi emphasised on development of agriculure and the need for improving the living conditions of the rural population, he added.
